Oberau

From Oberau to Innsbruck: places to explore from the Wildschönau.
Niederau lies at the entrance to the Wildschönau, at about 828 metres, and from this valley the surroundings are easy to explore. In the valley itself lie Oberau, Auffach and Thierbach, each with its own character: Oberau lies in the middle of the valley at about 936 metres, Thierbach higher up at around 1,180 metres. Just outside the valley the Inn valley begins, with larger places such as Wörgl, Kufstein, Schwaz, Hall in Tirol and Innsbruck, with shops, museums and old town centres.
This page gives an overview of the villages and towns in the wider area, grouped by region: the Wildschönau, the Alpbachtal with Alpbach and Rattenberg, the Brixental with Kitzbühel, the Kufsteinerland, the Inn valley and the Zillertal. For each place you can read what makes it worth a visit and roughly how far it is from Niederau.
Distances are approximate and depend on traffic and season. Many destinations lie within about an hour's drive, some within half an hour. Always check opening times and events beforehand with the organisation or municipality.
