Krimml Waterfalls
Summer Some of Europe's highest waterfalls in the Hohe Tauern National Park
Zillertal
Village in Salzburgerland on the Gerlosstraße, home of the Krimml Waterfalls.
Krimml is in Salzburgerland, on the Gerlosstraße that links Tyrol and Salzburgerland, at the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park. So the village is not in Tyrol itself, but it is easy to reach from the Zillertal over the Gerlos Pass.
The main reason to visit is the Krimml Waterfalls. With a drop of about 380 m they are among the highest waterfalls in Europe. The waterfall trail, laid out around 1900 with many viewpoints, is about 4 km long and leads to the upper end of the falls at roughly 1,460 m. It starts at the Wasserwelten Krimml car park on the Gerlosstraße.
For families staying in Niederau this is a day trip: expect a proper walk with children, with breaks along the way. The path is well built, but the climb is noticeable. Bring rain clothing, as it can be wet near the falls. Check admission and prices beforehand. Allow enough time, bring warm clothing and a packed lunch, and check the weather forecast beforehand so the trip is worthwhile for everyone.

From Niederau about 1 hour 25 minutes by car, via the Zillertal and the Gerlosstraße (Gerlos Pass).
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
