A Zillertal village with a lift into the Zillertal 3000 ski area
Hippach lies in the Zillertal between Zell am Ziller and Mayrhofen and has just under 1,500 residents. The municipality stretches from the valley floor at about 600 m up into the mountains and works closely with neighbouring Schwendau and Ramsau; together with Mayrhofen it forms the Mayrhofen-Hippach holiday region.
The village has the parish church of St. Ingenuin and Albuin with its red spire, plus a few chapels. In the hamlet of Laimach there are two waterfalls and the Silent Night Museum in an old farmhouse, the so-called Strasser Häusl. The Ziller bridge is a popular photo spot.
In winter the Horbergbahn takes skiers straight into the Zillertal 3000 ski area, which is linked with Mayrhofen and has 139 km of pistes. In summer there are hiking and cycling routes. From Niederau it makes a pleasant day trip through the Zillertal. Hippach is calmer than nearby Mayrhofen, which makes it attractive for those who want to see the Zillertal without the crowds. In winter, check snow conditions beforehand.
