Region

Zillertal

A large, well-known valley with Mayrhofen, Hintertux and plenty of mountain experiences.

The Zillertal is one of the best-known valleys in Tyrol and lies south of the Inn valley. The valley is about 47 kilometres long. Villages such as Fügen, Kaltenbach, Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, Mayrhofen and Hintertux lie along the Ziller river. The valley is known for its mountains, its glacier and its music and traditions.

For families it is a large area with plenty of choice. A narrow-gauge train, the Zillertalbahn, runs between Jenbach and Mayrhofen, and cable cars take you up for walks or skiing. Hintertux is known for its glacier ski area, with about 62 kilometres of pistes up to over 3,250 metres, where according to the lift operator skiing is possible all year. Mayrhofen is a lively village with plenty of places to eat and views. The Zillertal 3000 ski area links the glacier and the lifts of Mayrhofen, among others.

From Niederau the Zillertal is about an hour by car, depending on destination. The far end near Hintertux is further. For a day trip it is wise to choose one village or one mountain. Check opening times and weather beforehand.
