Fügen lies at the entrance to the Zillertal, at about 545 m, and with more than 4,000 inhabitants is the main village of the lower part of the valley. It has a reputation as a family-friendly holiday destination and belongs to the Erste Ferienregion im Zillertal.
From the village a modern ten-person gondola takes you up the Spieljoch (1,858 m), an adventure mountain aimed at families. Near the top station you will find an adventure playground, a water play park, a children's climbing park and a show mine, among other things. In winter the ski area runs on via Hochfügen, at about 1,500 m, to Hochzillertal. In the valley Fügen has a local-history museum and the Erlebnistherme Zillertal with slides, a wave pool and a children's area, a good alternative when it rains.
For families from Niederau, Fügen is an easy and varied day trip, in summer and winter. Check opening days of the lift and the pool beforehand.
