Kundl

Inn Valley village, start of the Kundler Klamm gorge to the Wildschönau

Kundl is a market municipality in the Tyrolean Lower Inn Valley, about 526 metres above sea level, between Wörgl and Rattenberg. Around 4,300 people live here. It is not a classic holiday resort but a working village in the valley, and that is exactly what makes it a calm place. For anyone on an outing from Niederau it is mainly interesting because the well-known Kundler Klamm starts here, a gorge that links Kundl with the Wildschönau, the valley in which Niederau lies.

In summer many visitors walk through this picturesque gorge. Because it connects the two valleys, it is a special walk for anyone staying in the Wildschönau: you see how a mountain stream finds its way down to the Inn. Ask beforehand about the current condition of the path, because paths in a gorge can be closed after rain or in winter. The village itself offers few big attractions, so plan Kundl as part of a route rather than as the only goal of the day.

Kundl also has an industrial history. The former brewery was converted in 1946 into a pharmaceutical plant, Biochemie Kundl, today Sandoz, which is among Tyrol's most important industrial employers and where medicines are produced and research is carried out. That plant is a workplace rather than a sight.
