Kramsach

Village with an open-air museum and small lakes by the Inn

Kramsach lies at roughly 520 metres above sea level on the north bank of the Inn, in the Tyrolean Lower Inn Valley, below the Rofan mountains. It belongs to the Kufstein district and has about 4,800 residents. For visitors from Niederau it is mainly a convenient destination because it sits right next to Rattenberg, so the two fit neatly into a single outing. The landscape here is varied: the flat valley floor along the river, with the rocky walls of the Rofan range rising above.

The best-known sight is the Museum of Tyrolean Farmhouses, an open-air museum founded in 1974 and located east of the Reintalersee. It holds around thirty historic farmsteads and rural buildings, complemented by barns, sheds, alpine huts and storehouses, brought here from different parts of Tyrol. It shows how people once lived and worked. You stroll across the grounds and look inside the buildings, which is a good way to introduce children to country life of the past.

Kramsach is also known for its small lakes. The Reintalersee, at about 564 metres, is with its turquoise-green water the largest lake of the so-called Kramsach lake district. The lakes lie in wooded surroundings and are popular for a walk; whether swimming is allowed and what it costs varies per lake, so ask locally or at the tourist office.
