Alpbach
Tyrol's flower village at about 1,000 m, known for its timber buildings
Region
Flower-filled mountain village Alpbach and the valleys around Reith, Brixlegg and Kramsach.
The Alpbachtal lies next to the Wildschönau and shares the Ski Juwel ski area with it; the Wiedersbergerhorn (2,128 metres) is the mountain on the Alpbach side. The best-known village is Alpbach, at about 1,000 metres, known for its solid timber houses with flowers and named Austria's most beautiful village in the 1980s. Reith im Alpbachtal, Brixlegg, Rattenberg and Kramsach also belong to the wider region.
For families there is plenty of variety. With about 400 inhabitants Rattenberg is the smallest town in Austria, a medieval town on the Inn with glassblowers; in Advent there is a Christmas market. Near Kramsach lie the Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe with about 37 relocated original buildings, and the Reintaler See, one of the warmest swimming lakes in Tyrol. Alpbach has walking and cycling routes and is a base in winter for the slopes.
From Niederau the Alpbachtal is roughly half an hour's drive, depending on the place. That makes it an easy day trip, for example a small town combined with a lake. Check opening times of museums and attractions beforehand, as they differ by season.
From Niederau you drive via Wörgl or Kundl to the Inn valley and then towards Brixlegg or Reith. The route to Alpbach also goes through the Inn valley. Driving time is about half an hour, depending on destination and traffic.

Yes, thanks to the mix of nature, small towns and museums; do not plan too much in a day.
