Kirchbichl

Inn valley village with a warm mud-bottom lake and the prehistoric Grattenbergl hill

Kirchbichl lies at about 520 m in the lower Inn valley, directly on the River Inn between Wörgl and Kufstein. It is not a classic tourist village, which is exactly why it is calm, with mountain views all around and a short distance from Niederau. For anyone heading into the valley, it is an easy, short drive.

The best-known spot is the Badesee Kirchbichl, a small natural bathing lake of just over a hectare with a muddy bottom. Its water is said to be the warmest open-air bathing spot in Tirol, and it is one of the oldest baths in the area. There are a restaurant, a kiosk, a beach volleyball court, a tennis court and a playground. The Grattenbergl is also a remarkable hill: a prehistoric settlement, the largest in North Tirol in the Bronze Age, and a site of the Tyrolean fight for freedom. It has been a natural monument since 1956.

In summer you can cycle or walk along the Inn. Kirchbichl suits families who want a short, relaxed swimming trip combined with a touch of history.
