Leutasch

High valley in the Olympiaregion Seefeld with the Geisterklamm and Gaistal

Leutasch is a high valley on the Seefeld Plateau in the Olympiaregion Seefeld, close to the Bavarian border. The municipality lies at about 1,136 m, has around 2,400 residents and is made up of dozens of hamlets, set between the Wetterstein, Karwendel and Mieming ranges.

The best-known outing is the Leutascher Geisterklamm: a gorge 75 m deep, accessible since August 2005 by modern steel walkways, which links Leutasch with Mittenwald in Bavaria. The Gaistal offers many family-friendly walks to alpine huts, such as the Gaistalalm, Hämmermoosalm, Tillfussalm, Wangalm and Rotmoosalm; a walk of about three hours is a common day hike.

In winter Leutasch is a snow-reliable cross-country destination with a large, daily-groomed network for classic and skating; in summer there is walking and cycling. From Niederau it is a day trip by car, roughly one and a half to two hours each way. It suits families looking for nature and gentle walks best. For safety's sake, always check current weather and opening information when planning your day.
