Kirchberg in Tirol

Lively village in the Brixental, at the mouth of the Spertental

Kirchberg in Tirol lies at about 860 metres in the Brixental, where the Spertental joins the main valley, a few kilometres west of Kitzbühel. With more than 5,000 inhabitants it is one of the larger villages in the region, with shops, restaurants and a centre that is lively all year round. The parish church, dating from the thirteenth century, is dedicated to Saint Ulrich.

In winter the Gaisbergbahn starts from the village towards the Kitzbühel ski area. In summer you can combine the same mountain with a walk: the Gaisberg is about 1,770 metres high and can be reached on foot or by gondola. In winter there is also a toboggan run that is lit up once a week. The Spertental nature reserve offers quiet walks, including a Kneipp facility, and a wide network of running and Nordic walking routes runs through the valley.

For a family from Niederau, Kirchberg combines easily with Kitzbühel: the village is livelier than Westendorf but less busy than Kitzbühel itself. There is also a bathing lake, which is used for summer events as well. Check opening times and current programmes beforehand.
