Day trip to Seefeld
Summer Olympic village on a plateau: walking, shopping and the Rosshütte
Inn valley
An Olympic cross-country centre on Tyrol's high plateau
Seefeld sits at about 1,180 m on a high plateau north-west of Innsbruck, surrounded by the Wetterstein range and the Karwendel Nature Park. The village is the heart of the Seefeld region, which also includes Leutasch, Reith, Scharnitz and the Telfs villages of Mösern and Buchen.
Seefeld is best known as a cross-country skiing centre: it hosted Olympic events in 1964 and 1976 and the Winter Youth Olympics in 2012. In winter there is a trail network of more than 200 km. In summer there are hiking and cycling routes, also for e-bikers.
The village has a pedestrian centre with shops and terraces, the historic Seekirchl and the World Championship Arena with its viewing tower. For families staying in Niederau it makes a long but manageable day trip, at its best in snow or in summer. In winter bring warm clothing, as the plateau is high and can be cold. Even without skis it is a pleasant place for a walk in the snow.
About 1 hour 20 minutes by car from Niederau, via Wörgl and the A12 past Innsbruck, then up to the plateau on the Seefeld road.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
