Village stroll in Scheffau
Summer A quiet village at the Wilder Kaiser, with paths up to meadows and alpine pastures
Kufsteinerland and Wilder Kaiser
A quiet village below the Wilder Kaiser, near the Hintersteiner See
Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser lies at about 620 m at the foot of the Kaiser mountains. Together with Ellmau, Going and Söll it forms the so-called Kaiser villages. The village was long agricultural and now lives mainly from tourism.
Compared with its busier neighbours Söll and Ellmau, Scheffau is calm and residential in character. About four kilometres away lies the Hintersteiner See, known for its turquoise water and a beach on the north shore. Hiking paths lead from the village into the Kaiser range, for example towards Gasthaus Bärnstatt and the 2,111 m summit.
In winter Scheffau is a central village in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, with direct access to the linked pistes. In summer the Kaiserwelt Scheffau at the gondola station (about 1,650 m) is a playground for children. It combines well with a visit to Going or Ellmau. Parking at the Hintersteiner See and the gondola can be limited in peak season, so arrive early. Check the current lift operating times beforehand.
About 35 minutes by car from Niederau: via Oberau to Wörgl, then via Söll to Scheffau.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
