Ebbs

Village in the lower Inn valley near Kufstein, known for Haflinger breeding

Ebbs lies in the lower Inn valley near Kufstein, on the eastern side of the Inn and at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser. At about 475 m it is, according to sources, the lowest-lying village in Tyrol. The village has around 5,500 residents and belongs to the Kufsteinerland tourist board.

Its best-known attraction is the Fohlenhof Ebbs, the centre of Haflinger horse breeding. Many famous breeding stallions and mares of this originally Tyrolean breed are kept here. The stables and paddocks can be visited, and according to one source there is a show on Friday evenings demonstrating the versatility of Haflingers. Check this beforehand.

For families, Ebbs is mainly a handy base for a day in the area. Kufstein with its fortress is close by, as is the Hechtsee, and the Zahmer Kaiser offers walks for every level. Ebbs itself is a quiet rural village: not spectacular, but easy to combine with a visit to the horses and a walk. From Niederau it is a short to medium drive on the motorway. It suits families with horse lovers best.
