Day trip to Bavaria with leisure park, Rauschberg and biathlon arena
Ruhpolding lies in the Chiemgau in Bavaria, Germany, at around 800 m, just across the border from Tyrol. It is a holiday village for both summer and winter, surrounded by mountains and forest, and a good choice for a day in Germany from Niederau.
For families, the best-known address is the Freizeitpark Ruhpolding, a leisure park with around sixty attractions that is usually open from Easter to All Saints' Day. If you prefer the mountains, head for the Rauschberg, with its views and walking routes for different abilities. In the village itself you will find the local history museum.
In winter, Ruhpolding is known for the Chiemgau Arena, which hosts biathlon World Cups and World Championships. It is a relaxed outing with plenty of choice, even when the weather changes. Check the park's opening times beforehand, as they can vary from year to year. Ruhpolding is a good alternative when it rains in Tyrol, as the park and museum draw many visitors and there is also something to do indoors. Bring ID and check the current opening times of the mountain lift.

About 1 hour 30 minutes by car from Niederau: via Kufstein and Kössen towards the Chiemgau (Germany). Bring your passport or ID card for the border.
