Day trip to Munich by train
Summer A city day in Bavaria: Marienplatz, Englischer Garten and museums
Inn valley
Lively town in the Inn valley, handy as a stop and for a rainy day.
Wörgl lies at about 510 m in the Tyrolean lower Inn valley, on the Inn and surrounded by the Kitzbühel Alps. It is a junction of roads and railway lines and the nearest larger town to Niederau. So not a classic holiday village, but a lively town with shops, restaurants and services.
Wörgl is internationally known for the free-money experiment of 1932. During the economic crisis, mayor Michael Unterguggenberger paid municipal staff partly in local work vouchers, the so-called Wörgl Schilling. This set the local economy moving again. The Museum Wörgl documents the story and there is a Freigeld walking trail through the town.
For families Wörgl is mainly practical: shopping, a rainy day or a stop on the way to Kufstein, Innsbruck or the Zillertal. The Wörgler Wasserwelten are known as a large water park, but its current status is uncertain; check beforehand. Because Wörgl lies right on the way to many other excursions, it is also a handy place to refuel, eat or let the children burn off some energy before driving on.
About 20 minutes by car from Niederau, via Oberau and the Inn valley.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
