A city day in Bavaria: Marienplatz, Englischer Garten and museums
Munich is little more than an hour by train from Wörgl, which makes it a feasible day out from Niederau. The Bavarian capital has a largely pedestrianised centre around Marienplatz, where the carillon of the New Town Hall plays at set times, and big green spaces such as the Englischer Garten, where surfers ride the standing wave on the Eisbach.
Families have plenty to choose from: the Deutsches Museum with its many hands-on exhibits, Hellabrunn Zoo, or an afternoon in a traditional beer garden. Going by train means no hunting for parking, and a full day is wise, as there is enough to fill several visits.
Place: Wörgl
From Wörgl Hbf the train to Munich Hbf takes a little over an hour (about 1 hour 10 to 15 minutes; direct trains run too). Wörgl is roughly 20 minutes by car from Niederau. By car Munich is about 1.5 to 2 hours away, depending on traffic and border queues.
