Glass workshops and a medieval old town, even on a cold day
With around 440 inhabitants Rattenberg is Austria's smallest town, built against a rock face above the Inn, with a medieval core of small houses and lanes. It is known as the glass town of Tyrol.
At Kisslinger Kristall-Glas, active since 1820, you can watch glassblowers at work and browse the shop with its glassware. According to the operator, blowing your own bauble is only possible from May to October, so in winter you mainly come to look and shop. It is a good option in cold or wet weather; combine it with a walk through the old town and, if you like, the Augustinian Museum.
Place: Rattenberg
Rattenberg is about 30 minutes' drive from Niederau, on the Inn in the Alpbachtal. Parking is possible at the edge of town; by train, Rattenberg-Kramsach station is within walking distance.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
