The Tyrolean capital with its old town, Golden Roof and mountain railway
Innsbruck is about an hour from Niederau and pairs a medieval old town with mountains that rise right above the streets. In the narrow lanes of the Altstadt stands the Goldenes Dachl, a late-medieval oriel with a gilded roof, close to the imperial Hofburg.
The Nordkettenbahn from the centre takes you to high altitude quickly, with views across the city and the Inn valley. Children often enjoy the Alpine Zoo and the old town most. Parking in the centre is limited and can be expensive; park and ride, or the train from Wörgl, is often more practical.
Place: Innsbruck
By car Innsbruck is about 50 to 60 minutes along the A12 (Austrian motorway vignette required). The train from Wörgl Hbf takes a little over half an hour; Wörgl is about 20 minutes from Niederau.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
The train from Wörgl is often easiest because parking in the centre is limited. By car you can use a park and ride.
