The smallest and highest church village of the Wildschönau, at about 1,150 m

Thierbach is the smallest of the four church villages of the Wildschönau and lies at about 1,150 m, higher than the other villages. It consists of little more than the church with its onion-domed tower, the school, farms and a few inns. If you want peace and views, you will find them here.

For families, the Wald- und Familienweg around the Thierbacher Kogl is a nice short walk. Along the way are wooden animals, a bee hotel, a small forest school and a large forest playground. In winter the same loop of about 5.5 km becomes a winter walk of about 2 hours, starting at the church.

There is some culture too: the Sollererwirt inn has kept its Speckbacherstube, a parlour dating from the time of the Tyrolean freedom struggle around 1809. A simple meal or a horse-drawn sleigh ride fits a visit well. Thierbach combines nicely with Mühltal or Oberau; check snow conditions and opening times beforehand. This makes Thierbach a quiet, authentic place for half a day, without crowds and with plenty of space for children.
