Inn valley
A market town on the Inn, below the Hohe Munde
Telfs lies in a wide basin of the Inn Valley, about 27 km west of Innsbruck, at the foot of the 2,662 m Hohe Munde. It is one of Tyrol's larger municipalities and has a lively character that is not purely tourist-driven.
In the centre, the richly decorated houses around the town hall stand out. Since 1981 the Tiroler Volksschauspiele have been held here in summer, and every five years the Schleicherlaufen, a carnival procession with around 500 participants in elaborate costumes, draws crowds. On the terrace above the town, in Mösern, hangs the Friedensglocke (peace bell).
Telfs belongs to the Seefeld region and is close to Stams Abbey. For families it suits a day of culture, a walk and a café stop, and it is a good base for a trip towards Seefeld. The centre is easy to explore on foot, with plenty of cafés and shops. Ask the tourist office about current events, as festival dates differ from year to year.
About 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Niederau, via Wörgl and the A12 past Innsbruck, exit Telfs.
