Tirol Panorama, Innsbruck

Giant circular painting of the Battle of Bergisel and the Kaiserjäger museum

On the Bergisel above Innsbruck stands the Tirol Panorama, opened in 2011. Its heart is the Riesenrundgemälde: a 1,000 m² circular painting from 1896 showing the third Battle of Bergisel on 13 August 1809. It was made by the Munich painter Zeno Diemer under the supervision of Franz von Defregger and is one of only twenty classic circular paintings still in existence.

Besides the panorama there is the permanent exhibition Schauplatz Tirol and the Kaiserjäger museum, which tells the military history of the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger regiment. Children often find the panorama impressive for its size and the many details. Allow about an hour and a half.
