A city day out with the Golden Roof, the Hofburg and the Nordkette
Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and a pleasant city for a day out: the old town is compact and largely car-free. The Golden Roof, the balcony with 2,657 gilded copper shingles built for Emperor Maximilian I, is the best-known landmark. Close by are the Hofburg and the medieval arcaded streets.
If you like, combine the city with the Nordkette cable car, which climbs from the centre to the Hafelekar in three stages. A pass such as the Innsbruck Card can pay off if you visit several sights and lifts; work out beforehand whether it fits your plan. With children, a partial programme usually works better than trying to do everything in one day.

Innsbruck is about 1 hour by car from Niederau via the A12. The train works too: take a regional train or Railjet from Wörgl to Innsbruck Hbf (approx. 30 to 40 minutes); the old town is a short walk from the station.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
