Decorated cows return from the alp: a village festival
Each autumn the animals are brought down from the high pastures to the valley, and in Auffach this is a big village festival. More than 500 animals come down. Around midday the decorated cows arrive at the foot of the Schatzberg, greeted with applause and traditional folk music.
The festival starts around 10 am and runs until about 6 pm, at the valley station of the Schatzberg cable car. There is a craft market, a market with regional products, live music and local food. The date usually falls in September and varies by year; in 2026 it was 19 September. Check the current date with the tourist office.
