Car-free streets with oriels and Gothic gables in Tyrol
Kitzbühel is best known for skiing and the Hahnenkamm race, but in summer it is also a pleasant town for a stroll. The two main streets, Vorderstadt and Hinterstadt, are pedestrian areas. The houses have oriels and Gothic gables, and there are churches such as the Liebfrauenkirche and the parish church. There are also plenty of shops, from international brands to local specialities.
A loop through the old town takes about an hour and a half, more if you sit down somewhere. The town has a different feel from the villages in the Brixental: smarter and busier, with many terraces. It suits half a day and combines well with a cable car ride or walk on the Kitzbüheler Horn.
Place: Kitzbühel
Kitzbühel is roughly 45 minutes by car from Niederau, via Wörgl and the B170 through the Brixental.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
Yes, the old town with its pedestrian streets, churches, shops and terraces is a pleasant stop even outside the ski season.
