Town history, mining and the Alfons Walde collection
Museum Kitzbühel | Alfons Walde Collection sits on Hinterstadt in the centre of town, in two of its oldest buildings. A former granary and a tower of the medieval town fortifications have been incorporated into the museum. The exhibition tells the story of the region, from Bronze Age mining to the growth of Kitzbühel as a winter sports resort.
The permanent collection is devoted to the painter Alfons Walde (1891-1958): around sixty paintings and more than a hundred drawings, photographs and graphic designs. Walde was among the first to make skiing a subject of painting. The museum is easy to take in and combines well with a walk through the old town; allow one to two hours.
