Glassblowers at work in Austria's smallest town
With around 440 inhabitants Rattenberg is the smallest town in Austria and is known as the glass town of Tyrol. Glassblowers, cutters and engravers have workshops in its medieval lanes. Kisslinger Kristall-Glas, active since 1820, is a well-known address where you can watch glassblowers at work and browse the shop.
From May to October visitors can, according to the operator, blow their own crystal glass bauble on certain afternoons (Monday and Friday) under a master's guidance and take it home; booking is reportedly not required. It is especially fun for families with children. Combine it with a walk through the old town. Ask in advance about times, age limits and price.
Place: Rattenberg
Rattenberg is in the Inn Valley near Kramsach, about 30 minutes by car from Niederau via Wörgl and the A12 (Kramsach exit). Park outside the car-free old town and walk in.
Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.
At Kisslinger Kristall-Glas this is possible, according to the operator, on certain afternoons from May to October; ask about times and price in advance.
