Glassblowers, studios and shops in Tyrol's glass town
Rattenberg in the Alpbachtal is known as a glass town. The lanes of the medieval little town hold shops and studios selling glassware, from drinking glasses and jewellery to art pieces. At Kisslinger Kristall-Glas there is a glass furnace and glass is blown on the spot, so visitors can watch glassblowers and engravers at work.
In the summer months you can blow your own glass sphere under guidance on certain afternoons and take it home. Check current days and opening hours beforehand. It makes a relaxed half-day outing; glass is fragile, so keep small children close.
