Swimming at Lake Achensee

Tyrol's largest lake with clear water and beach baths

Lake Achensee lies at about 930 m between the Karwendel and Rofan mountains and is the largest lake in Tyrol. The water is very clear; it remains a mountain lake and is usually around 18 to 20 degrees, at most about 22 degrees in summer. Around the lake there are bathing spots and beach baths, including near Pertisau, Maurach and Achenkirch.

Besides swimming, the lake makes a good outing in its own right, with the lake steamers and the walking paths along the water. It does take some driving from Niederau, so plan a good day for it.
