Hiking on the Schatzberg above Auffach
Take the Schatzbergbahn up and hike across the alpine pastures
In summer the Schatzbergbahn takes you from Auffach in a little over a quarter of an hour to the top station at more than 1,770 m. Up there is a large hiking area with mountain huts such as the Schatzbergalm, with views over the Wildschönau. Experienced hikers can continue to the Gerngipfel or the Joelspitze.
For families there is an easy walk of about 4.5 km from the middle station down to Auffach, along a forest path with valley views and past the open Bernau plateau. At Berghaus Koglmoos by the middle station there is a water playground for children. In 2026 the season runs from 4 June to 4 October.

Practical
Auffach is about 15 minutes by car from Niederau, further up the valley. The valley station of the Schatzbergbahn is in the village.
