Hiking near Kössen, Kaiserwinkl

Quiet walks by the Kaiser mountains, away from the crowds

Kössen lies in the Kaiserwinkl, the north-eastern corner of Tyrol by the German border, between the Zahmer Kaiser and the hills of the northern Chiemgau Alps. The region has about 200 km of marked hiking trails and some thirty huts where you can try regional specialities such as hay-milk cheese.

It is quieter than the best-known parts around the Wilder Kaiser. There are short walks for small children and longer tours, for example to the Ottenalm, the Edernalm or the Taubensee. A free hiking map with tips is available from the Kaiserwinkl tourist office in Kössen.
