Alm hike near St. Johann in Tirol

Walking network with alpine huts between the Kitzbühel Alps and the Wilder Kaiser

St. Johann in Tirol lies between the Kitzbühel Alps and the Wilder Kaiser. In and around the village, including Oberndorf, Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf, there is a network of more than 250 km of walking trails, with many alpine huts and mountain restaurants where you can rest and enjoy Tyrolean dishes.

Families can choose gentle routes, such as the walk to the Prostalm on wide forest and farm tracks (about 7 km). Another option is the Kaiserbachtal with the Griesner Alm at about 1,024 m, right opposite the Wilder Kaiser. A toll road leads there, and in summer a free hiking bus runs to the car park in the valley. If you want more, pick a longer day tour. Ask the tourist office for maps and current routes. It is about 50 minutes by car from Niederau.
