The Margarethenhof lies near Marienstein in the municipality of Waakirchen, on the edge of the Bavarian Pre-Alps. Its 18 holes opened in 1984 and sit at roughly 900 to 950 m above sea level, which makes it one of the highest golf courses in Germany. The land is hilly with water hazards, and the course is described as sporty and challenging.
Par is 70. The yellow tees measure about 5,080 m and the red tees about 4,330 m. Because of the altitude the season only runs from April to November. The course belongs to a hotel, but outside guests are welcome if they register beforehand. A valid handicap is required, so ask about the current conditions. From Niederau it is a little over an hour and a half by car via Bavaria, so combine it with a day by the lake.
