Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, Ehrwald

By cable car up the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain

The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn starts in Ehrwald and takes you up in two panoramic cabins for about 100 people, climbing more than 1,700 metres to the Zugspitzplatt in roughly ten minutes. At 2,962 metres the Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain and sits on the border with Austria. The cable car is the oldest in Tyrol and turns 100 in 2026.

In clear weather the view stretches up to 140 kilometres, and the Faszination Zugspitze museum is an option even when the weather is poor. It can be cold at the top, even in summer. Allow for a long drive from Niederau; the summer season runs roughly from May to November.
