Alm walks in the Brandenberg valley

Quiet paths to alpine pastures in a peaceful side valley

The Brandenberg valley is a side valley of the Inn valley near Kramsach and Rattenberg and much quieter than the large tourist valleys. With about 87 per cent forest cover, Brandenberg is the most heavily wooded municipality in Tyrol. The Brandenberger Ache, a turquoise mountain river, flows through the valley between steep rock faces.

The best-known walk is through the Tiefenbachklamm gorge between Kramsach and Brandenberg: about 5.7 km, moderately demanding and just over three hours, on a path along rock walls with bridges and a viewing platform. From the upper end of the valley you can return by bus. From the village, paths also lead through forest and over alpine pastures to alms such as the Lahnalm and the Jocheralm. The best time is roughly May to October. Keep your distance from wildlife and grazing animals.
