Historic steam train from Jenbach to Lake Achensee
The Achenseebahn is a narrow-gauge cog railway that has run since 1889 and is regarded as the world’s oldest steam cog railway. Hauled by original steam locomotives, the train climbs gradients of up to 16 per cent from Jenbach to the Seespitz stop on Lake Achensee.
The ride takes somewhere between half an hour and an hour, depending on the source and timetable. The railway was rescued and restructured and runs again in summer. For children the steaming locomotive is the highlight; adults enjoy the forest and views along the way. At Seespitz the boat across Lake Achensee connects.
