Chairlift up the Pillersee mountain to the walk-in summit cross
The Buchensteinwand lies in the Pillerseetal valley, between St. Ulrich am Pillersee and St. Jakob in Haus. A family-friendly chairlift, the Bergbahn Pillersee, takes you up in a short time. It is above all a walking and viewpoint outing.
The best-known spot is the Jakobskreuz at around 1,460 m: a summit cross about 30 m high that you can walk inside, the largest of its kind. From the top station it is a few minutes on foot, also with a pushchair. There are also hiking trails, a flower trail and a playground by the mountain lake. It is a relaxed day out with plenty of views, suitable for the whole family and for anyone who prefers not to walk far.

Tips
- The Jakobskreuz is a few minutes' walk from the top station, also with a pushchair.
- Bring a jacket; it can be windier at the top than in the valley.
- Combine the viewpoint with the play area at the mountain lake.
Practical
From Niederau it is about 55 minutes by car to St. Ulrich am Pillersee, via Wörgl and Kitzbühel. The valley station of the Bergbahn Pillersee has parking.
