A rustic mountain hut near the top station
The Rübezahl-Hütte sits on the Markbachjoch above Niederau, at roughly 1,450 m and about 150 m from the top station of the Markbachjochbahn. According to its own pages and tourism sites, it calls itself the most rustic hut in the Wildschönau. The timber hut stands in the middle of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area and is also a regular stop for walkers on the Markbachjoch.
The menu is best known for Kaiserschmarrn, the thick shredded Tyrolean pancake, which goes well with coffee or hot chocolate. Live music is played on certain days, with grilled dishes alongside. The hut also offers rooms to stay in. With children the walk from the top station stays short, since the final stretch is brief.
