A night in a self-catering hut on the Markbachjoch
On the Markbachjoch above Niederau stands the Markbachjochhütte, a mountain hut where you can stay overnight. It is a self-catering hut with space for about 30 people, four dormitories with 2 to 14 beds, washrooms with toilet and shower, and a dining room with a wood pellet stove. The walk up takes about an hour and a half, or you can take part of the way by gondola.
Because it is self-catering, you organise food and drink yourself, so bring groceries. For families with somewhat older children it is an adventurous night high above the valley. Book well ahead and ask about conditions, price and what to bring yourself, such as bed linen. On the Markbachjoch there are also places to eat such as the Norderberg Alm, which are mainly open during the day.
