Patscherkofel Alpine Garden

University botanical alpine garden above Innsbruck-Igls

The Alpengarten near the top station of the Patscherkofelbahn has belonged to the University of Innsbruck since 1930 and is regarded as Austria's highest-altitude botanical garden. It lies between about 1,890 and 1,950 m, covers around two hectares and shows alpine plants from various mountain regions.

A marked circular walk leads past dwarf-shrub heath, mountain forest and high herb meadows. You can keep the visit short or combine it with a walk on the Patscherkofel. A calm outing for families interested in nature. The garden is open during the day in the summer months (roughly June to the end of September). Check the opening times of the garden and the gondola beforehand.
