Ski, snowboard and cross-country ski rental in the Wildschönau: who, where and what to look out for
Anyone travelling to Niederau by train or plane rarely brings their own skis. Fortunately renting in the Wildschönau is easy: many rental shops are close to the valley stations of the lifts and in the village centre. On this page you will find the rental shops named in public sources, by village, with what you can rent there according to those sources.

Sport Blachfelder is in the village centre, in Hotel Austria. According to the sources they rent skis, snowboards and touring skis, as well as sleds and bikes. Ski & Board Margreiter is by the car park and lift of the Markbachjoch and rents skis, snowboards, cross-country skis, sleds, snowblades, boots and helmets.
In Oberau Ski & Board Margreiter also has a branch; according to the sources it rents skis, snowboards and cross-country skis.
At the valley station of the Schatzbergbahn is Ski & Board Margreiter, with rental, ski service and a ski and boot depot. Ski Auffach, at the end of the slope, combines rental, ski service, a shop and a ski school. Skisport Thaler is a family business with sports goods and winter rental.
In Thierbach and Mühltal we found no rental shop of its own. Guests take the ski bus to Auffach or Niederau.
Prices, opening times and conditions change each season and are deliberately not listed.
According to the listings of Wildschönau Tourismus the Wildschönau Card gives you seven days of rental for the price of six at several rental shops (including Blachfelder, Margreiter, Thaler and Ski Auffach), and snowshoe rental is sometimes included. You get the card from participating accommodations. Check the current conditions with the rental shop and your accommodation.
