Niederau ski area: piste map and overview of the Markbachjoch and Ski Juwel
Where to find the Niederau piste map and how the ski area fits with Ski Juwel
Niederau has its own clear ski area on the Markbachjoch and the Lanerköpfl. It is easy to get to know: wide slopes above the village, a gondola from the village centre and a quiet practice slope for beginners. According to skiresort.info it comes to about 24 km of slopes and 4 km of ski routes.
In the overviews Niederau is counted as part of the larger Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area. That is much bigger, but it cannot be reached from Niederau by slope or lift: you travel between them by ski bus. On this page you will find the official pages and the piste maps of reliable providers, and what to know before you go.

The ski area of Niederau
The area around the Markbachjochbahn and the Lanerköpfl is the village’s own ski area. The gondola leaves from Niederau and takes you up the Markbachjoch; from there the slopes run back to the village. For beginners there is a practice area at the Lanerköpfl (ask locally about the current state of the practice lift). You can read more about the mountain, the lifts and the huts on the Markbachjoch page.
Ski Juwel: the bigger picture
Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau is the larger ski area the Wildschönau belongs to. Sources give about 113 km of slopes and ski routes (other sources 109 to 114 km) and 43 to 45 lifts; the numbers differ by source. The link between Alpbach and the Wildschönau runs via the Verbindungsbahn. Niederau is not on that network: ski buses run between Niederau, Auffach and Oberau, according to Wildschönau Tourismus more than twenty trips a day.
Season 2026/27
According to the Ski Juwel operating-times page some lifts open on 4 December 2026. The Verbindungsbahn runs, according to current planning, from mid-December 2026 to 4 April 2027, the Reitherkogelbahn until mid-March. This is planned and may still change; check the current details with Ski Juwel.
Skiing in the evening: Roggenboden
In Oberau lies the small ski area Roggenboden with a drag lift, best known for night skiing and night tobogganing. In the 2025/26 season that was on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7.30 to 9 pm, from 7 January to 20 March, with registration required. Check the dates for 2026/27 beforehand.
