Hahnenkamm Races Kitzbühel 2027

The famous Streif downhill, 18-24 January 2027, about 45 minutes from Niederau

18-24 January 2027

The Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel are among the best-known ski races in the world. The 87th edition runs from 18 to 24 January 2027. The emphasis is on the weekend: the super-G is on Friday 22 January, the famous downhill on Saturday 23 January and the slalom on Sunday 24 January. The training runs in the days before, on 19 to 21 January, are free to watch.

The downhill takes place on the Streif, one of the steepest and most feared courses on the World Cup circuit. Besides the racing, Kitzbühel becomes one big party that week, with many visitors, music and atmosphere in the town. From Niederau it takes roughly 45 minutes by car, but on race days the roads and parking can be much busier.

Tickets for the race days are sold in advance only and not on site. So look well ahead at the organiser's official website, check the current dates and times, and arrange your transport early. For families with young children, a training day is often the calmer choice. If you would rather avoid the crowds, you can follow the races on television and simply visit the town.

Tips

  • Book your stay for the week of 18-24 January 2027 early; Kitzbühel and the area fill up.
  • Buy tickets in advance through the official ticket shop; they are not sold on site.
  • Choose the training days (19-21 January) if you want it free and calmer.
  • Travel early or by train; roads and parking are busy on race days.
  • Dress in warm layers and bring a thermos; standing outside for hours is cold.

Always check times, prices and opening dates with the provider beforehand; they can change.

The programme of the week

The race days are the super-G on Friday 22 January, the downhill on Saturday 23 January and the slalom on Sunday 24 January 2027. The training runs from 19 to 21 January are free to watch and already give a good impression of the atmosphere and the course. The official programme with start times is published by the organiser, the Kitzbüheler Ski Club. The downhill usually starts during the morning or around midday. Check the current times just before you go.

The Streif

The Streif is the downhill course on the Hahnenkamm, the high point of the ski area near Kitzbühel. It is known for the steep Mausefalle just after the start, the Steilhang and the fast final section to the finish in the valley. Skiers reach very high speeds on some stretches. Spectators have places along the course and in the finish area. The best views are not always the easiest to reach: it is busy, and it can be cold and slippery.

Tickets and admission

Tickets for the race days are sold in advance only and cannot be bought on the day. General standing places in the spectator area can be booked through the organiser's official ticket shop; seated and hospitality options also exist and cost more. Prices and availability change from year to year, so do not assume them in advance. The downhill training on 19 to 21 January is open to everyone, so you can experience the event without a ticket.

From Niederau to Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel is about 45 minutes by car from Niederau. On race days the road into town is busy and parking is limited or reserved. Consider the train or a shuttle connection from a nearby station, or leave very early. For children a short, quiet training day is often more pleasant than a long race day. Dress in warm layers, wear sturdy winter boots and bring something to drink. Check current traffic information in advance.
