More than 50 years at the Wastlhof: our family story
From grandparents to grandchildren: a second home in Niederau, in summer and winter.
We have been coming to Hotel Wastlhof in Niederau for more than fifty years. First my grandparents, then we as a family, and now the next generation. This is a personal story from the owner of this website, about a place we love to visit in both summer and winter.
It began with my grandparents
The story begins with my grandparents. They were already staying at the Wastlhof long before I went myself. Later we took over as a family and we have kept coming back: more than fifty years by now. In winter to ski, in summer to walk and enjoy the peace and the views. Each season has its own charm and we can recommend both.
Learning to ski with their grandparents
My children learned to ski in Niederau, together with their grandparents. Those are memories that last: the first turns, the hot chocolate afterwards and proud grandparents beside the slope. They also learned there to enjoy the mountains, on skis and on foot.
Always welcome with the Brunner family
The Brunner family always welcomes us and our friends with open arms. That feeling of coming home to people who know you is, for us, the main reason we keep going back.
Spring break with fifteen families
For about ten years we went skiing in the spring break with more than fifteen families of friends: well over sixty people together. A large group, lots of children and a full programme every day: skiing, lunch on the mountain, dinners together and chatting in the evening. Our children got to know each other well that way, and many of those friendships are still going.
After the ski day the children enjoyed the swimming pool and the parents the sauna. A little après-ski was always part of it too, sometimes with bitterballen brought from the Netherlands.
The next generation
Most of those children are now in their mid-twenties and starting families of their own. The first friends are already going to the Wastlhof with their children and grandchildren. Our own children also go to Niederau independently now, with their partners. And so the story continues.
